Another Searcy restaurant has applied for a private club license, with the city already set to hold a public hearing on a previous application next month.

Searcy City Council is expected to set a time and date on Tuesday for a public hearing on the new request, which has been made for Mi Ranchito on Race Avenue to be allowed to serve alcohol. The public hearing on the request of the other restaurant, Venezia’s Italian Grill on Race Avenue, will take place on November 9 before the board meeting. The cost of applying for a private club permit is $ 1,500.

The new claim was filed on behalf of Alejandro Tristian Jones, vice chairman of the board of directors of Mi Ranchito On Race Inc. Jones wrote that the restaurant was opened by his father, Alex Jasso, chairman of the board of administration of Mi Ranchito, in 2001 and operated as a Mexican restaurant until August 11, 2020. It now serves seafood as well as Mexican platters.

After that, Jones wrote, his father opened a few other restaurants of the same name, in Cabot and Bryant. He noted that these two restaurants are still in operation and “both offer alcohol with our fine Mexican cuisine.”

Jones said his father had worked in the restaurant business for more than 25 years, starting as a waiter before becoming a waiter, then manager, then owner. He said his mother had also worked in the restaurant business for some time.

“Back when my mom and dad were together, my mom was part of the beginning of the restaurant adventure,” he said. “After they split, the opportunity presented itself and my mom ended up becoming a manager at El Almacen in Searcy. My mom served tables before and was even involved in bar work some nights. My mom is everything. is the manager and knows how to properly run a restaurant and customer service.

The love Jones said he had for the restaurant business began when he was young. “I remember being a little kid 10 to 14 cleaning tables, so eager to win $ 30 in full every time we left. Once I grew up my dad started to get more involved with me, like being a host, serving tables and now giving me the responsibility of running the Mi Ranchito On Race restaurant.

He said he had been running Mi Ranchito since August 11, 2020, “while I was looking for a degree at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro. As of May 8, 2021, I have obtained two degrees (administration of Business and Business Management) with a minor in Entrepreneurship.

Jones said his experience with alcoholic beverages included “serving drinks from the age of 19. … I started making a few drinks when I was 21, I’m familiar with the bar scene as well. and the appropriate ABC alcohol regulations. “

He said he thinks that having been “in the restaurant business for a long time… we have enough knowledge and experience in the restaurant industry to know how to properly serve our communities in a professional manner. According to Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration spokesperson Scott Hardin, there are currently 10 establishments licensed by the ABC Division to sell alcohol in White County.

“Since it’s a dry county, these are all private club licenses,” Hardin said. “In order to obtain a private club license, the local governing body (city council or quorum court) must provide the applicant with a support order for a private club application to be considered by ABC.

“If an application does not have a support order from the local governing body, the application will not be processed. This allows communities in dry counties to determine if there is a need for additional establishments that offer alcohol.

State law regarding the nomination process was amended in 2017 to include local governing bodies. Before Law 1112 came into effect, three Searcy restaurants applied for permits. The ABC acceded to these requests from Rock House, El Almacen and Colton’s Steakhouse.

The first request adopted by the board dates back to October 2018, when it allowed Rib Crib to apply to the ABC division. The board has since accepted applications from Guacamole Grill, Chili’s and two restaurants that have closed, Whole Hog Cafe and Truth Table. The last permit was approved in 2019.

The other four private club licensees in the county are the VFW stations in Searcy and Beebe, the Searcy Country Club and the Searcy Elks Lodge.
