Former Clear Lake Restaurant Sold | Local

The old Chinese restaurant Rice House in Clear Lake has been sold.

The building, located at 1305 N 24th Street in Clear Lake, was purchased by Marcos Gomez of Minnesota. Gomez is also the owner of El Loro Restaurant, which is just around the corner from the Rice House.

Since the Rice House closed over a year ago, the building has remained vacant.

Gomez told the Globe Gazette that although he does not have concrete plans yet, he intends to use the building as rental property.

“There is no clear picture yet,” Gomez said. “But (Clear Lake) is an exciting place to invest.”

Gomez said the main candidate to fill the vacant property at the moment is to set up a fast food drive-thru.

According to Beacon recordings, the building was purchased by Gomez on October 28 of this year for $ 150,000.

El Loro fans have nothing to fear, as Gomez has stated that future plans for the Rice House building will not impact the popular Mexican restaurant and that it will continue to operate as normal.

There is currently no timeline for when the building could be occupied again, but Gomez said he expects more news around April of next year.
