From tasty food to live music, the Vanilla Bean Café has it all
February 1—POMFRET — As its name suggests, the Vanilla Bean Café? offers tasty food and drinks.
Since 1989, the Jessurun family has owned and operated the restaurant. Barry and Brian Jessurun run day-to-day operations with occasional help from the rest of the family.
Since then, the family’s philosophy towards their restaurant has remained the same: to create a place where they would feel comfortable and serve dishes that they would want to eat.
More than 30 years later, the restaurant continues to serve dishes that people not only want to eat, but constantly crave.
“We have people who come here regularly,” said Brian Jessurun. “When I say regularly, I mean daily.”
On weekdays, guests can start their day off right with breakfast served from 8am to 11am.
Diners can choose from a variety of specialty egg sandwiches. The restaurant’s egg, pastrami, and Swiss cheese on an English muffin, plus egg, tomato, and bacon grilled cheese on wheat bread will have you coming back for more.
Coffee ? also offers delicious omelettes with fruit.
Customers can add homemade fries on the side for just $2 more.
For those looking for energy to face the day, the Vanilla Bean Café? offers a great deal on bottomless coffee. For just $3, diners can drink as much coffee as they want.
The restaurant also offers guests a variety of other drinks to wake up to, including espresso, cappuccino, and hot chocolate. Diners can also choose from a selection of specialty drinks, including Maple Cinnamon, Nutella, and Milky Way Lattes.
The weekend breakfast menu differs a bit from the weekday menu. To start, diners can start their day with plain or blueberry pancakes or French toast.
Surely the restaurant’s scrambled egg burrito, served with homemade fries, will attract customers to the cafe? during the weekend.
Weekend breakfast is served from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
Additionally, breakfast specials are offered on weekends. In the past, this included favorites such as seasonal pancakes as well as bangers and mash.
The Vanilla Bean Cafe? also offers quality sandwiches and soups.
The grilled pastrami Reuben and oven-roasted turkey and bacon sandwiches are mouth-watering.
Coffee ? also offers award-winning chilis and soups made with the freshest ingredients.
A wide variety of burgers can be ordered daily after 11:00. Everything from basic burgers to specialty burgers like a turkey burger with avocado and salsa are available for purchase.
Those looking to eat healthy can choose from a variety of salads on the menu.
Quesadillas are also available for those craving Mexican food.
Every day, at least five lunch and dinner dishes are displayed on the restaurant’s blackboard.
As far as possible, coffee? supports local businesses. He uses products from various Connecticut companies, including Devon Point Farm, Hosmer Mountain Soda, and Nodine’s Smokehouse.
Coffee ? offers a wide selection of beers, from traditional brewers to microbrewers around the world. A variety of wines are also available.
Although the Vanilla Bean Café? prides itself on offering gourmet food and drink, the restaurant offers so much more.
It has been the forum for many types of entertainment throughout its 30 years of operation.
Coffee ? held its first open mic night in 1990.
Since then, it has become a restaurant staple, held on the first Friday of every month.
Over the years, open mic night has hosted many different types of performances. Entertainment ranges from Celtic folk and Cajun Zydeco musical performances to storytelling and poetry readings.
The second Friday of every month features folk music performances and songwriter sessions.
Barry Jessurun is grateful to the customers who have supported the family business for all these years.
“Thirty years would not be possible without our valued guests and friends who regularly pass through our door,” he said.
Barry Jessurun also thanked his staff over the years for all their hard work.
“Our longevity is also a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees,” he said.
