LIBRARY NOTES: Macedonia, Newark and Palmyra


The Macedonian Public Library, 30 Main Street, has announced the following programs.

Cardio Drumming with Julia: 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. June 3, 10. Move outdoors in a fun, non-intimidating way. Dress in loose clothing and wear comfortable shoes. Course canceled in case of rain. Masks welcome. Registration required.

Insurance and points reduction workshop: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 4. Participants will refresh their driving knowledge, potentially reduce their driving record by up to four points and receive a minimum reduction of 10% on their insurance base rate. Bring lunch. Registration required. $ 25.

Rollicking Tea Kettle Music Concert: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 4. Cathy McGrath will lead the children in song games and songs related to story books. Social distance required; masks welcome. Bring a blanket, cushion or lawn chairs for the outdoor program. Registration required.

Identity theft: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 7. Learn the methods identity thieves use to steal personal information and how to stay protected. Understand what information is at risk and learn about red flags to look out for in common scams. Registration required.

Four keys to preventing organic diseases and insects: from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 7. Learn how to be proactive in protecting your plants against organic diseases and insect infestations. Registration required.

The Newark Public Library, 121 High St., will host the following programs.

Full STEAM Ahead: 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. June 3. For families with children aged 5 and over. Younger siblings are welcome. Dress for the mess. A video of the session will be posted on Facebook.

Alliance Book Discussion: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 5 via Zoom. Explore short stories and essays by African American writers in the genres of science fiction, horror and fantasy with “Dark Matter: A Century of Speculative Fiction from the African Diaspora”, edited by Sheree Renee Thomas. Registration required.

DIY Light-up Foam Lighthouse: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 8. Meet at Pavilion # 2 in Perkins Park, near Washington Street. Registration required. $ 5.

Trail Blazers Walking Club: 9:25 am Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This walking club for all skill levels meets at Perkins Park in the Washington Street parking lot for a 30-minute walk on the walking trail.

Storytime for toddlers: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. For ages 5 and under. Join Miss Alicia for stories, songs and crafts. Limit of four families. Videos from each session are posted on Facebook. Registration required.

Teen Anime Club: 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday. For 13-18 year olds. Join us to watch and talk about different anime and manga shows. Limited to 10 people. Registration required.

Mahjong: 5 p.m. on Tuesdays. Held in the community hall.

Cards at the library: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Weekly card games on the following rotation: euchre (week 1), cribbage (week 2), hearts (week 3) and dealer’s choice (weeks 4-5).

The Palmyra Community Library, 402 E. Main St., has announced the following programs.

First hike on Saturday: 9 a.m. on June 5. Meet at the Ganargua Creek Meadows Preserve at the corner of Wilkinson and Victor Road for a 1-hour hike led by Phil Opdycke.

Chair exercise: 5 p.m. Wednesday. For adults. Take the stress out of this in-person class on the third floor of the library. $ 5.

Get in shape with Kristi: Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Palmyre Community Center, 424 Stafford Street. A fun aerobics and dance class for residents of Palmyra. Masks required. Release.
