New Restaurant, Retail Stores Coming to Ardmore

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) – Ardmore is growing again – the town has several new retail businesses and restaurants along the way.

Currently, a building stands empty on Market Street, but it will soon house a Qdoba Mexican restaurant, a Jersey Mikes sub-store and a Sport Clips hair salon.

City manager Kevin Boatright said many people were involved in the process, even before the company decided to move to Ardmore.

“Once that happens, they often meet with our development services staff and talk about ‘how does your permitting process work’ and ‘once we have to call you for inspections – whether it’s electrical or plumbing – how fast are you going to be there,” Boatright said. “Because the longer they are in business to make money, the sooner they can begin to recoup their investment.”

Boatright said it’s good for the community that businesses move in quickly.

“The big benefit for Ardmoreites here and for those who live in our community is that it gives them more options for retail opportunities so they can shop here,” Boatright said. “They don’t have to travel to another community or drive south or north to pick up the products or services they need.”

New businesses also help the city with sales tax. Boatright said that since the state of Oklahoma does not have a property tax, towns like Ardmore derive almost all of their funding from sales taxes.

“It’s extremely important that we have businesses in town that hopefully serve the needs of your community and generate sales tax at the same time,” Boatright said. “And that’s how you can provide just the basic services for your community.”

Boatright said the new Market Street businesses will open next month.
