Something’s Cooking: American and Mexican restaurant

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Something’s Cooking is in Hartford to shine the spotlight on a company that combines cultures to create meals that are a real treat for your taste buds and your eyes.

Business is good at the American and Mexican Diner.

The culinary skills of owner and chef Jhovani Diaz have helped him attract loyal customers and an incredible wife.

Now, Jhovani and his wife Irene own the American and Mexican Diner along with Jhovani’s brother, Henri, and his wife, who happens to be Irene’s sister, Rosemary.

“I’m so happy because we work hard for this, my brother, my sister-in-law, my wife, work so much for this,” Jhovani said.

This hard work pays off. The Hartford restaurant is booming.

The restaurant has become a social media star thanks to dishes that are as beautiful as they are tasty.

Jhovani describes her famous Tres Leches pancakes, topped with strawberries and powdered sugar. It’s a must!

Lime Chicken Tequila is a delicious lunch option. It is garnished with cilantro and a pretty flower.

Also try the spicy diablo shrimp!

But Jhovani’s most extravagant dish really fired up and blew us away.

Your eyes don’t deceive you, it’s an ice cream cone right in the middle of a pile of French toast, topped with caramel sauce.

It’s banana French toast.

“When you bring a great presentation, people say wow,” Jhovani said.
