In 2021, Jacksonville’s restaurant scene continues to grow, with new restaurants opening or opening in the coming months. Here’s a look at what’s opening or coming soon to the St. Johns Town Center neighborhood of Jacksonville and other areas of Southside.
145 ° F boiling seafood
Offering Dutch boils and fried seafood, 145 ° Seafood Boil has taken over old Applebee’s at 4507 Town Center Parkway, near downtown St. Johns.
Bistro Canton Bamboo Blue
Jacksonville Chef Dennis Chan has opened his new restaurant, Blue Bamboo Canton Bistro, 10110 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin in January. | Read more
Windy Hill Chocolate
Chocolate maker Suzy McGrath has opened a Windy Hill chocolate store inside the Blue Bamboo Canton Bistro at 10110 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin. The gourmet chocolate factory offers chocolate popcorn, pretzels, fortune cookies, truffles and candies.
Popular grocer ALDI opened in February at 3650 Philips Highway in south Jacksonville.
First Baymeadows watch
Offering breakfast, lunch and brunch, First Watch opened its ninth restaurant in Jacksonville in May at 9271 Baymeadows Road. | Read more
Holey Moley bagel store in New York
NYC Holey Moley Bagel Shop, offering authentic New York-style bagels, opened in June at 8616 Baymeadows Road, halfway between I-95 and the Philips Freeway. It offers at least 15 varieties of authentic New York-style bagels as well as multiple flavors of cream cheese schmears, including s’mores, honey pecans, strawberries, veggies, chocolate batter. cookies and pineapple. | Read more
The Southern Italian, a classic New York-style grocery store and market with a Southern twist, opened in July at 5065 St. Augustine Road in a space previously occupied by Floyd’s Diner, Jax Diner and Bobby’s Lunch Box. It is an extension of the popular Cugino’s Sausage Co. founded by Christopher Condon. The Deli, co-founded by Caitlin Zalmanoff, features family-run Condon recipes for authentic, freshly made Italian specialties and Southern fare. | Read more
Chick-fil-A opened their new neighborhood restaurant on July 1 at 3814 University Blvd. W. in the Lakewood neighborhood of Jacksonville. He is among at least 20 in the Jacksonville area, according to the company’s website. | Read more
A few weeks after the opening of Jacksonville’s first Crumbl Cookies near Beach and Hodges Boulevard, the popular second cookie bakery location opened at 11406 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin on August 27. Widely known on Tik Tok, Crumbl Cookies offers a weekly rotation of specialty cookies in generous portions. | Read more
Offering over 1,700 red, white and sparkling wines, over 500 craft beers and 1,400 spirits, WDs opened on September 1 at 4472 Hendricks Ave. at Miramar Center. It is Winn-Dixie’s first stand-alone liquor store, based in Jacksonville. | Read more
Charley Wings and Philly Steaks
Charleys Wings & Philly Steaks plans to open in the Old Krystal at 9840 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin. The restaurant will be Charleys’ third in the Jacksonville area.
The fourth Culver restaurant in the Jacksonville area will soon open at 7818 Gate Parkway, near IKEA. The restaurant famous for its ButterBurgers, cheese curds and ice cream opened its first neighborhood restaurant in Middleburg in 2019, followed by Southwest Jacksonville and St. Johns in January. A fifth is planned at Monument Road and a sixth at Yulee. | Read more
Dochi, an artisan donut store specializing in Japanese mochi donuts, plans to open its first permanent store in northeast Florida. It will be adjacent to BENTO Asian Kitchen + Sushi in the downtown markets. | Read more
Mexican Grill Chipotle
Chipotle Mexican Grill converts an old Whataburger site into its new restaurant at 3860 University Blvd. W. The restaurant follows recent openings of other Chipotle restaurants in Ortega Park and Brooklyn Station in Jacksonville.
Bono’s Pit Bar-BQ Gate Parkway
Destroyed by a massive fire a year ago, Bono’s Pit Bar-BQ is set to rise from its ashes with a new design incorporating lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new restaurant will total 4,000 square feet, including a 1,000 square foot outdoor dining area – one of many new features that also include drive-thru and an expanded area for preparing take-out orders, according to plans. . | Read more
