Wichita Falls family thrilled to open new Mexican restaurant
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The owner of Las Alteñitas says it’s a dream come true for the Casilla family because there everyone can enjoy authentic Mexican food.
“My mom always wanted to since we were little, we always sold food and she always said, I’m going to have a restaurant one day and she saw the sign and she was like let’s go,” said the owner Barbara Casilla.
During the opening process, the family faced renovation delays, but Casilla says it was worth it as their goal was to make it an old-fashioned home and style.
“We had a lot of things to remodel, like putting everything in place so they could let us open it up and it could look like a place to enjoy your food like home,” Casilla said.
The inspiration behind their colorful designs and Mexican atmosphere comes from their roots in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
“The old style, yeah, like the authentic back in the day, to make them feel welcome home and comfortable enjoying their food,” Casilla said.
The menu offers a variety of tasty dishes. In just a few weeks, the community has shown their love to some.
“Oxtail and birria tacos are top sellers. We dipped them in red fat with cilantro, onion, cheese, we fried them with the birria meat in them, then there’s consumption next to which they dipped their tacos with their sauce. And then, the oxtail is with green sauce and tomatillo, serrano and it is accompanied by rice beans and salad the tortilla of your choice. Those are pretty much our pluses,” Casilla said.
The cooking and the originality come from the hard work of Maria. For Barbara, it has been a long journey and feels fulfilled to have her mother’s wish come true with the help of her siblings.
“Because she worked hard. It’s very nice to finally see this come true for her,” Casilla said.
Maria is very happy to know that people enjoy her meals and wants every dish to be perfect to give customers what they want.
“It’s just something about mom who, I don’t know, she just likes to do it the old-fashioned way. The old ingredients like every detail of the seasoning, she puts her heart into it and we want them try his food,” Casilla said.
If you want to try Maria’s food, go there!
